A couple of days later

Here we are in a hotel in Villahermosa, and what a couple of days it has been. I am not sure if the back dirt roads are any worse than the so called paved roads. They like big speed humps here, like really big. Knock yu off your bike if you miss them. On eh secondary roads you get from two to ten of these type bumps to control the speed or is it a way for the bus cars to make money selling thins at each one since you have to almost stop before climbing over them. If you get unlucky enough to get behind a big rig, almost every second one, then you will stop.
I say the wrecks of three rigs over the last two days and I have to say they would have been great to see happen from the side lines. I hope all the drivers were Ok but I don't know. The last one was a cattle hauler and it was upside down. People were butchering the dead and injured animals right there and walking away with a slab of beef. Weird.
The truck drivers are very courteous though, they signal with the signal light when it is safe to pass them. They will even pullover on the shoulder on two lanes and then signal you to go by even on double solid. Cool!!.
Well that's all for now and no new pics.

Ceballos, Durango, Mexico

Well I woke up this morning and did not expect this.

It was a balmy 2 C here and yes that is Frost on my seat. NOT COOL, well really cold actually.
The hotel I stayed at is call the Inn at Creel and it is a Best Western Hotel. Beautiful place that would be at home on any ski slope. This area is developing eco tourism and it seems to be working a bit at least.
I saw signs as I drove down the road in Blue tha mentioned different sights along the way. I saw one that said Cascadas which is Waterfalls but when I turned off to see them I stopped before I had to pay to see this one.

I figures if the stream bed beside me is dry then the water fall might just be dust also. Oh well. The drive after that was great and for my friends that like the twists and turns you would love this area. You drive along and on the side of some beautiful mountain valleys and gorges.

I guess I need to clean the lens too.

The lay of the land changed and I thought I was looking out over Saskatchewan. well no really more like Montana. Then the canyons opened up again.

The canyons here remind me of coming into monument valley from the north.

A bit farther South but no warmer.

I am in Creel tonight writing about the last couple of days. When I left Sahuapira I went down the road a bit and found a "unpaved road". Well it was unpaved alright, Down to 1st gear for a lot of it and did some climbing. Got up to an elevation of 2375 meters. Yes it cooled down a bit. I passed through some small towns and finally stopped for lunch on the side of the road at a little place that said restaurant. It turns out to be someones house that does food when people stop. Good food. I talked with the husband and he was deported back to Mexico but had lived most of his life in the States. Turns out the area I was in was a big mining area for gold. I did notice one town looked like they had a mine there but not three of them.
He also informed me that the road I was one was a major drug transportation route. I guess I am glad to finished there.
Back on the payment and down some great twisting roads to San Juanito for the nigh. Found a hotel and it was cheep but the hardest bed I have ever tried to sleep on.
This morning it was cool and got to cold, dropped to 0 C as I was traveling to Creel. Funny enough as I came into Creel the temp climbed to 10 C. I traveled into the canyons and saw some great sights. The road turned into shit again and after about 20 more Ks of this I thought that I might just have to take a pass on this for the day. My back was not too excited about it.

Sahuaripa, Sonora Mexico

Yes well they let me across the border and I have to say it was a bit anticlimactic. I drove right through and then I figured out I better go back and do some paper work or I might have a hard time at the other end. No problem with the paper work and just a deposit of $400.00 and the processing fee and off we were.
Getting out of that town was a bit interesting, then down the 17 I was. The land kept changing from flat with moutons off in the distance to moutons and good curves to ride. I loaded up my fuel cans also and the girl is getting a bit twitchy in the corners so i have to slow it down.
I stopped in this town for the night so I don't get myself into some weird problem of finding a hotel. Mr.GPS has a problem with math these days and keeps coming back with cannot calculate the route. Got to love that. Still I found the Hotel and it is cool.

Day Before the First Border Crossing

HI and it is Thursday and tomorrow is my first border crossing. Looking forward to it. I started out in Tucon after a late get away from the BMW repairshop. they did a great job on replacing the water pump that has leaked for the last two years and never gotten too bad.
It was a bit cool this morning again and I really don't enjoy those days nor does Shamus. We stopped in Tombstone for breakfast and when I stopped a gentleman came up t me and started to talk about bikes and the ride. The Beemer loaded as it is tends to make people want to talk I guess. Well Barry used to race desert bikes and owned a couple of bike shops so he know his bikes. He now has a webpage set up for travelers to input info about rides and such. Not only dedicated to bikes but a number of other modes of transportation including personal watercraft. Cool Look it up IrideAmerica.com.
Well that is about it for now so see you on the other side when I find internet again. Copper Canyon here I come.

Sunday 16/14

First a trip to see Rockabilly. First time for one of these events. Most interesting cars and bike and trucks you can imagine. Girls and guys dressed in the fifties gear and pinup girl attire. Very nice.

Saturday 15/14

Call Dennis and got him up for a ride to Parker to meet me. then we made out way back to Lake Havesu  and Dennis and Karen's house. Bert and Marlene came over and we had a good reunion.

Friday 14/14

Friday and it is a gorgous day for the start anyway. Breakfast at the savory cafe then down town and take some pictures and see the museum. Funny enough I can't use my phone here. Off I go towards Havasu.
The ride is great but the traffic through Tucson is crazy and even worse in Phenix. Finally clear and down the highway I go and looking for a hotel. Not a very successful mission until I get to Parker, about three hours longer ride that  I wanted.
Just love the desert.

Thursday Day 4

DAy is looking great but turned very cool as I for out on the desert. I saw .5 C at some time. Thought I was going to freeze. Then I fueled up in Pecos and off I go, down a back road again. This trip got to be a little exciting as I found out the tour I was taking did not include gas stations. I managed to slide into Dell City and get gas there. Of  course the fuel stop the GPS gave did not exist but there was a NAPA store that had gas and was self serve including honesty on how much you rang up. They don't even check, so cool there are still people like this around.
Well I cleared ElPaso and then followed the border all the was to Davidson ,Arizona then up to Bisbee. This starch of road had no police except the Boarder Patrol and I was able to keep the speed up all the way. Bisbee is so cool, from the funky Inn I stayed at that  is owned by a Kiwi guy who works for CAT on the big Diesel Electric Mining trucks.

Wednesday Day 4

This day is looking bad to start but ended up getting to anise temp for riding. I finished in Fort Stockton and looking forward to tomorrow as I can get past El Paso. Did see my first Road Runner today, made me laugh.

Tuesday Day 3

Well the day is not looking so good. Cloudy and a good possible of rain. So I checked out and started out towards  San Antonio. I didn't make it. By 2 in the afternoon it has started to rain and sleet so it is find a hotel time.

Monday Day 2

Well it started out raining. I called about the seat and found out the shipping computer is down. Not much luck there. Went and looked at rotopac tanks and tried for a fit. Not really liking it. Picked up a GoPro Camera, takes a bit to make this work. Still trying to make it do the smart phone thing.
Tomorrow is take of day.

Starting From Houston

Well I left Canada in -15 C weather to Houston and the temp was barely 5 C the day I arrived. Shamus Na I got the bike out and was anticipating a new seat for the trip. Sorry to say it was not there. Have to look into this on Monday. Bike is working fine.
